Esteban Ocon recently addressed his unexpected early departure from Alpine, sharing a heartfelt message on social media after the team announced his replacement by rookie Jack Doohan for the season finale in Abu Dhabi. This sudden exit marks the end of a five-season stint with the Enstone outfit, during which Ocon delivered some of the team’s most memorable results since their return to Formula 1.

Ocon’s departure comes after a challenging end to the season. Following a remarkable second-place finish in the rain-soaked Sao Paulo Grand Prix, he struggled to score points in Las Vegas and Qatar. Reports of his exit surfaced post-Qatar, with Alpine confirming his release ahead of the Abu Dhabi race to allow him to prepare for his upcoming move to Haas. In his statement, Ocon admitted that leaving prematurely was “not how I wanted things to end,” but he expressed gratitude for the opportunities and relationships built during his tenure.

Reflecting on his time at Alpine, Ocon highlighted his contributions, including his maiden Grand Prix victory in Hungary in 2021 and multiple podiums in Bahrain, Brazil, and elsewhere. “I leave Alpine/Renault with great memories and the pride of having been the driver who brought the team’s best results since its return to the sport,” he stated. Ocon also played a pivotal role in Alpine securing fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship in 2022, cementing his legacy with the team.

Ocon acknowledged the difficulties of the 2024 season, particularly its latter half, but expressed no regrets, emphasizing his commitment to giving “100% every single session.” He extended his apologies for not being able to bid farewell to Alpine’s workforce in person, stating that his original plan was to race in Abu Dhabi and visit the team thereafter.

Looking ahead, Ocon wished Jack Doohan success as he stepped into his shoes for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, a crucial race for Alpine as they battle Haas for sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship. Despite the abrupt end, Ocon remained optimistic, stating, “The world of F1 is small, and I am sure I will see many of you again soon.”
