George Russell has fiercely responded to Max Verstappen’s criticism of him, labeling the world champion’s comments as bullying tactics. The tension between the two drivers escalated after the Qatar Grand Prix, where Verstappen accused Russell of trying to get him penalized during a stewards’ hearing. Russell’s pole position was revoked due to an impeding incident, and Verstappen publicly stated that he had lost all respect for the British driver because of his actions.

However, Russell did not take Verstappen’s remarks lightly and countered with his own strong words. He revealed that Verstappen had threatened him in the paddock, saying he would “put me on my f*****g head in the wall.” Russell expressed his disbelief at such a threat, calling it “ironic” and unnecessary. He noted the contradiction of Verstappen questioning his integrity while making violent threats.

Russell went on to claim that Verstappen has been bullying other drivers for years, citing incidents from previous seasons where Verstappen lashed out when faced with adversity. He pointed to the 2021 Jeddah and Brazil races, as well as this year’s Hungarian Grand Prix, where Verstappen’s actions, such as crashing into Lewis Hamilton and criticizing his team, were less about racing and more about his frustration.

Russell emphasized that while on-track rivalry is part of racing, personal threats cross the line. He expressed his disappointment in Verstappen’s behavior, describing it as disrespectful and unnecessary. Russell also questioned why other drivers had not spoken out against Verstappen’s actions, implying that some had allowed his tactics to go unchecked.

Russell praised Lewis Hamilton as a role model for his aggressive but respectful approach to racing. He contrasted Hamilton’s handling of tough championship battles with Verstappen’s recent actions, which Russell described as “do or die” moments that risked deliberately taking out opponents, something he believes is unacceptable in the sport.

Russell explained that he felt compelled to speak out now because of Verstappen’s media comments, which he felt disrespected him as a driver. Despite the tension, Russell has known Verstappen for over a decade and emphasized that their past relationship had been based on mutual respect, making the recent comments all the more jarring.
