After 13 rounds of intense racing, the 2024 Formula 2 Championship has come down to a thrilling final showdown between Gabriel Bortoleto and Isack Hadjar. The two drivers are separated by a mere half point, making the last race in Abu Dhabi a nail-biting contest. The recent races in Qatar have set the stage for this exciting conclusion, with the two contenders now battling head-to-head for the title.

The championship has never been so close at this stage of the season. Bortoleto, who had a slow start to the year, has gradually gained momentum. His breakthrough came in Round 4, where he finally reached the podium, and from there, he has been a model of consistency. The Brazilian driver has finished only once outside the top 10 since Imola, securing two Feature Race victories along the way. His first win came in Spielberg, where he resisted pressure from Hadjar to clinch victory, and his second was a remarkable achievement at Monza. Starting from last on the grid, Bortoleto managed to win the race, making history as the first driver to do so in F2.

However, Bortoleto’s run was not without setbacks. In Lusail, despite being in contention for victory, a mid-race Virtual Safety Car and a penalty hampered his chances, allowing Hadjar to close the gap and move back into the title fight.

Hadjar’s season has been more inconsistent, but the French driver has had standout performances. After a slow start, he won his first F2 race in Melbourne and later added victories in Imola, Silverstone, and Spa-Francorchamps. These wins propelled him to the top of the championship standings at one point, but a rough patch in Monza and Baku allowed Bortoleto to catch up. Hadjar’s resilience in Qatar, where he capitalized on Bortoleto’s penalty, has brought him right back into the championship race.

With the title race so finely balanced, the Yas Marina Circuit will be the ultimate battleground. Both Bortoleto and Hadjar have demonstrated their skill and determination throughout the season, but with everything on the line, the final race will be a true test of their nerves. The 2024 F2 Drivers’ Championship is poised to be decided in a dramatic and unforgettable fashion, with the title hanging in the balance until the very last lap.
